I have a my touch 3g with the data plan but im going to be unlocking my iphone 3gs?

I would like to know can i still use 3g and gps with the iphone since i have a data plan even though its tmobile. Also what are the downsides I dont care about warranty or bricking I only paid 50 for the phone.
